Round 4 ANZAC Day Remembrance – Shepparton United v Kyabram at Deakin Reserve
Round 4 of the Goulburn Valley League marked more than just a contest on the field, it was a moving tribute to the courage, mateship, and sacrifice of our fallen heroes, as well as our ex-service men and women.
The ANZAC Day Remembrance ceremony held at Deakin Reserve before the Shepparton United v Kyabram match offered a moment of reflection and gratitude. We were honoured to have Bob Wilkie, President of the Shepparton RSL Sub-branch, in attendance.
Bob’s service to our country and community spans decades. At just 20 years of age, he was conscripted and deployed to Vietnam in April 1971 with the 4th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, one of the final Australian units sent to the conflict. As a rifleman, Bob faced long operations in unforgiving jungle terrain, enduring patrols and ambushes lasting up to 40 days.
After moving to Shepparton in 2000 and retiring in 2005, Bob dedicated himself to veteran affairs. For the past decade, he has served as President of the Shepparton RSL Sub-branch, continuing his commitment to supporting veterans and honouring the legacy of service.
This ANZAC Day, we say thank you to Bob Wilkie, for his service then, and for all he continues to do for our community today.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Melissa West, sister of B Grade netballer Nat Ralph, for her beautiful singing on the day. Your performance added a deeply emotional touch to the ceremony.
Lest We Forget.
