We are excited to kick off our Seasons Player Reveal with none other than Kade Chalcraft!
At 22 years old, Kade has already made a significant mark in his career. In 2021, he captained the Murray Bushrangers and took home the team’s Best and Fairest award, showcasing his leadership and on-field skill. After that success, he joined Geelong’s VFL side.
Now, we’re thrilled to welcome Kade back home to United, where he’s sure to continue shining. See below for more information on Kade!
What did I get out of VFL football?
Being in an elite environment with high standards was a huge takeaway. I had access to quality coaches, top-tier facilities, and talented teammates. The VFL system also provided a lot of valuable football knowledge, and I really benefited from the education side of things. I particularly enjoyed the challenge of fighting for a spot in the team – it’s something we’ve implemented at United, where everyone is competing for their position.
Why Shepparton United?
It was an easy decision to come back to United, especially with my younger brother (Zane) pushing to play senior footy this year, and my dad (Daryl) coaching the backline. I also have all my mates here, and playing in front of my family is something special.
What have you enjoyed about the club?
The professionalism has really stood out to me – the wellbeing perspective and way we are taking our football seriously. The connection within the entire club, from the committee to juniors, netball, and girls’ football, is something I’ve really enjoyed as well.
What are you hoping to get out of the season with United?
From a team perspective, I am hoping we push for finals, play our style of football, and see how far we can go. We are adopting the mentality of “why not us?”!
Personally, it would be great to play as much footy as possible. The last two years have been tough with injuries, so I’m looking forward to a full season.
What nickname do your teammates call you and why?
This one’s funny! I get called “Beast.” A couple of the Melbourne-based boys at training started it, and honestly, I’m not sure why – but the boys get a good laugh out of it!
